Range terminology Empty Range terminology

Post by JLK 8/14/2011, 7:06 am

Years ago, when I very, very briefly shot NRA High Power Rifle, I heard the term "housekeeping target"
used to describe the not fired on targets at either end of the target line.
I've been away from bullseye for several years but started back recently.
Now I hear the term "hospital target" used.
I've searched the .pdf files for the High Power and Conventional Pistol rule books on the NRA site but
nothing comes up.
So...
It's not in the rule book.
Does any one know which term is correct?
Thanks!

I have never seen anything in any rule book about them but here in the Northeast we call them hospital targets. In case anybody is wondering what we are talking about it is a target set up in the position after the last shooter to give everybody an equal chance of firing on the wrong target. The only time they are not used is if the line is full.

I'll bite. Why is it called a hospital target?

I don't have a clue. I only know why we use them. Anybody?
