Brass catcher

Where do I buy a good set up to catch 45 brass ?  A stand of some kind .  Thank You .

Another vote for CMM Shooting Sports and their ultimate brass catcher

I have the CMM catcher, works well but be sure to have an allen key with you as the screws sometimes come loose.

Yeah they're getting quite proud of that catcher. With shipping its $155, getting pretty crazy. I've got a new local shooter getting equipment and its a tough pill to swallow. I showed him the Champions Choice catcher which isn't as nice but is $80, problem is we have TN sales tax which adds 10%, still better than $140.

$140 is kind of steep for a brass catcher... I got lucky and bought mine when they were $95 or so. $115 shipped I think.... 

But I've used both the Champions Choice model and the CMM model and I still would be happier with the CMM model - which I have. I enjoy the drain opening in the bottom - makes life a little easier when emptying the thing, and I like that there are arms to help keep the netting open. That was one issue I had with the Champions Choice model. If it was windy, sometimes the netting wouldn't sit open enough and rather than catch brass, the brass bounced off the netting and out onto the table or ground. 

For a new shooter it's hard to spend a lot of money on something in a sport where the shooter may not be certain of how long he/she will be in this sport or how active they will be or if the equipment is even affordable regardless of all that. It can be a difficult choice at times. I say wait, do the best you can without, and save for the better options. Our sport is full of equipment that holds resale value in places like this forum.

I've had a CMM catcher catcher for several years now. It works well but I'd never pay what they are asking for one now. Actually it's the one piece of equipment that I could easily do without. I never take it to Perry. I use it most here at home in the winter. Keeps my brass from being lost in the snow until spring.

At matches it's just another piece of equipment I'd rather not have to think about.

For a new (or cheap) shooter who can't see spending $145 on a brass catcher, try using a fishing net.  This one (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001FTU7YY/) costs $25, the handle telescopes easily and without tools to accommodate different bench heights (or guns that throw brass differently), it folds up when not in use, it's light, it's strong enough to hold ninety 45ACP cases without issue, and the netting is small enough to catch 22 brass.  I cut off the handle to make it shorter (it still telescopes), and added a couple pieces of wire to hold the net back, so that it catches the brass better (rather than deflecting it).  If I wanted a drain hole, I could cut one in the bottom and add a closing mechanism to it, but I haven't bothered.  I initially made a base for it from a scrap of 2x4 wood, but now it stands in a piece of PVC that is bolted to the side of my ammo can.  Been using the net every week for about 3 years, and it's holding up just fine.

For decades in this sport I felt no need for a brass catcher.  Then I bought a Pardini HP in 32acp.  It throws everything about 45 degrees forward, either into the grass or in front of the firing line indoors.  So I got a CMM, before the price went up.  It is great.

i think i originally got a cmm brass catcher for 90 years ago. I gave it to a junior and pick up my brass now
